Important: 
  1. The file might take a bit to load depending on your connection!
  2. Popular bug: Black screen if you click on "Play" straight away. Click on "Credits" first, then "Back", and then "Play".

  4. Option buttons (Mute, Save, Load, etc) only work in the game-file version. 
  5. Quality was reduced due to dA compression! The original file was too big to upload _(:3_)TL

So two weeks ago I published a journal looking for mermaid characters to draw in a couple drawing 8D Welp, after two weeks of work, VOILA! :dummy: 
It was no couple illustration or anything like that haha XD It's an actually short Visual Novel!! ´7` I've always wanted to make one so I thought why not do something like this and also offer it as a commission type from now on? :meow: That was the thought that motivated me to work on this for almost 50 hours the past 2 weeks omg o)-) 

:bulletblue: Story
There were so many beautiful characters to pick from in the journal I published, but UchuNoKumoh 's characters proved to be the easiest ones to work with for a short story like this ;7; I'm deeply sorry for my stupidly silly scenario-writing skills Q7Q

I was inspired by uchu's characters' first meeting: Aylin loves trinkets and he always picks up anything that looks pretty enough. Halim happened to notice this, so he started placing such little decorations around for Aylin to pick up, hoping to one day have a talk with the shy boy. Welp, the day comes! But Halim can't contain himself //I know, I wouldn't be able to either :')// and hugs the boy. Aylin gets scared and runs away, and this is where the short Visual Novel starts ´7` 

:bulletblue: Designs
Soooo...I think there goes without saying that Aylin is my type of character ΦΦ I love white haired characters with dark skin, so it was love at first sight when UchuNoKumoh commented with her babies under my journal o)-) Halim being a centaur also was interesting enough, as I haven't drawn any centaurs before. I loved both designs so yay! :dummy: I changed the designs a bit and made it so that Halim's abs and nipples would be visible IM VERY NOT SORRY :meow: Other than that small alteration, I don't think I changed anything else.

:bulletblue: Sprites and Scenes
I made one main sprite for each character. I miscalculated the dimensions though, so I had to crop them in order to use them for the game file :') Other than that, I also made ~6-8 different expressions for each character, because they are so much fun to make ´7` I played around with Aylin's ear positions as well, to create different expressions too! I wanted to play with Halim's ears and hand positions too, but sadly I had no time _(:3_)TL As for the scenes, Aylin's solo scene was the first one I drew. It was this scene where I decided to go with a cel-shading style for the whole Visual Novel. Even though I'm not so used at cel-shading and ended up merging everything with my regular painterly style, I'm happy with how this style turned out. It was refreshing to work on it c: 
The Good End scene was the second scene, and I had less troubles with it. I wanted to do a Bad End scene, but sadly, I had no time QQ Working on an extra scene would mean more dialogues, more programming, more expressions and more debugging o(-( All in all though, I really enjoyed this! I wish I had the time to add the Bad End illustration and some little easter eggs of other characters that I liked in the journal _(:3_)TL //sob

:bulletblue: Music, backgrounds and overall setting
This pretty much is the reason why I asked for a mermaid type OC in my journal: A beach background is incredibly easy to make haha :'D The overall setting, including music and sfx too. It's something happy, relaxing and calm, which I think everyone would enjoy! Finding the music was not easy actually. Most tracks out there require a license, but thankfully there's this website listed in the credits that has royalty free music .v.b The moment I heard "Summer Day" I thought "THAT'S IT!" One of the most difficult things though was incorporating the music in the Flash and game file like omg so many bugs and so many conversions and each file requires a specific version to work and I WAS SCREAMING but thankfully it worked in the end _(:3_)TL //after I watched like 6 tutorials and changed the code more than 7 times  o(-(

:bulletblue: Programming&Debugging
The most tedious thing I had to do for all of this o(-( I worked with C.novel's script for the main part, which was fun and ok but man some silly and totally "I make no sense" bugs were pestering me at first. Managed to fix them though so thank god! The big boss though: Flash. Scripting and programming everything to be functional with Flash. Let me tell you that after the 8 hours mark of constantly debugging, I gave up and simplified things by recording my actual game file and converting it into a .mov file :'D Then I just programmed those files to work with Actionscript (EVEN MORE BUGS OH MY GOD) and after dying inside a few times, this is the result _(:3_)TL I can do better actually but holy hell, I was at my limit o(-( As long as the main parts (buttons, options etc) are playable and functional, I'm ok. This is supposed to be a sample after all ;u; Making everything in the Flash file the exact same way I made them for my game file would require a minimum of 20 more hours of work and I--- I just don't _(:3_)TL I'd rather play Nier Automata than debug bugs for 20 hours XD
Other than those key-points, I don't think I have anything else I'd like to dive into! :meow:

And of course thank you to everyone who's been supporting me all this time! :iconlaloveplz: I feel that I've grown a lot as an artist from when I first started. It was a huge dream back then to make a Visual Novel, even a short one, so completing this fills me with great happiness´u`

I was looking around Deviantart for visual novel resources and stumbled upon this full-fledged VN here! On DA of all places! Amazing work! Speaking as someone who's a write for VNs and who created his own VN, I want to say I wish I knew you earlier this year, lol. I was looking around like crazy earlier this year for a programmer to make my VN game a reality and it seems you have a lot of skill as you made this. You're really skilled. If you're interested in being a programmer for my VNs (paid, of course), then maybe we can work something out! If not, I understand.

Good work with this and hope you achieve your dreams, whatever they may be! =)
